23 | 5'3" | Playing it Cool

જ⁀➴Born and raised in Gloucester, Massachusetts, Clarissa King was the youngest of three, with her two older brothers twelve years her senior. It was a strange upbringing. Her parents had not planned on having her, and yet... here she was! Her brothers raised her mostly, though they weren’t ideal parents or friends. She turned to her cousin, Hannah, for companionship instead, and they bonded over books, video games, and quiet evenings. You could call them sisters; most people assumed they were, anyway.

In middle school, Clarissa started realizing how out of place she felt. Insecurity and anxiety were constant companions, and she needed something, anything, to keep her mind from turning in on itself. It was a saving grace when her friends wanted to learn how to play instruments. She wanted to play guitar, so it gave her a reason to actually pursue it. The rest, you could say, was history.

Matriarch was her first love, a band formed between herself, Grace, Lizzy, Nicky, and Hannah. It strengthened her bond with the friends she already loved so fiercely, so when Grace left after graduation, declining to move to Boston with them, it shattered her world. Worse? Clarissa chose the band over her high school sweetheart and felt the avalanche of losing two people at once.

Now, the band is pretty much the same. Petra has stepped in as their newest bassist, and gigs are doing better each week. They actually have fans? What else could a girl ask for?

જ⁀➴ Clarissa was supposed to move on. She parted ways with her high school boyfriend when they discovered they wanted different things. He wanted to go to college in New York and she wanted to stay with the band. These two things could not exist at the same time. And she wasn’t going to be the person who begged him to stay and risked being the reason he felt held back, nor could she be the person who left her friends. They parted ways after graduation and Clarissa hasn’t seen or spoken to him since. Until tonight.
