0015. Maris Solano
Tides Between Us
The sun sat heavy on the horizon, the kind of molten orange you only found near the sea, smudging the sky with strokes of gold and coral. The air carried salt and warmth, thick with the rhythm of the tide. The docks of Key West buzzed softly—boats creaking against their ropes, gulls calling overhead, the faint slap of waves against wood. It was a place that smelled of brine and fish, sweat and engine oil, but there was something alive in it too, a pulse that belonged to the ocean and everyone who owed it their livelihood.
That’s where you found her.
Maris Solano moved with the ease of someone who had grown from saltwater itself. Her hair, dark and heavy, streamed down her back in loose waves, streaked by sun and sea. She had a laugh that carried on the wind, bright as seaglass, and when it rose, it seemed to break tension the way waves broke against rocks. She was barefoot, balancing on the worn rail of her father’s boat as if gravity had little hold on her.
