The sun rises, somehow, over a weary world again. Against all reasonable virtues I have reversed the inactive status of this account.

After loudly announcing my departure with a tedious and well-written essay I was fully intending to return to botmaking at some point, but then I unfortunately became quite hyperfixated on a very popular extraction shooter video game and just did that for hundreds of hours.

But the urge to think tingly thoughts while typing and cackling like a gremlin was too strong, and I was forced, against my own will, to start writing again.

My sweet salty salamanders. My yogurt cups. My silly little soapy saddlebags. Your internet art trash daddy has turned the lights back on for the time being.

I wish to express my profound and sincere appreciation for the entire past and present moderation staff of Janitor.

Thank you for giving your lives and your energy to create a beautiful space where we can get together and feel a tiny bit less lonely, even for just a minute.

As of this writing, the official Janitor discord has been locked following the walkout of what is essentially the entire moderation team. This follows some very real receipts about the mistreatment of the volunteer moderation team, as well as a raft of other problems you can look up if you are interested.

It is a tale as old as the dial-up internet: overworked volunteers, tone-deaf management, bad actors, growth outpacing scaling. I have seen it before. Many, many, many times.

Sometimes the ship is righted! Sometimes.

Since I am a Good Boy Who Does Not Break The Rules, I have basically never interacted with the moderation team in an enforcement capacity. But I appreciate the hell out of moderators.

I have seen some shit on this fucking Internet, buddy. I have been a perverted little worm online ever since I stumbled across alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.breasts sometime in the tail end of the twentieth century and it's basically all been downhill from there.

If you make a web site on the open internet where whoeverthefuck can make literally anything, they will make the worst, most horrible shit imaginable. I have seen it! It is a howling, screeching void of filth.

You could not pay me to moderate content.

But a user and creator, I also want to not be exposed to the void. I want to goof around and look at cartoon pinups and pretend to get bullied by enormous, powerful women.

I want to share in the fun of a kind of culture that literally did not exist five years ago without having to wade through campaigns of targeted harassment.

When I joined Janitor AI in November of 2023, it was making headlines as a place where people were sharing the kinds of wild, uninhibited, personal ideas that have always been the most interesting part of the Internet.

The user base was 70% female! It was this intensely weird little corner in the wild west of chatbots where you could just let it all hang out. The community here was all weird and wonderful, an island of misfit toys. Welcoming and perverted and magical.

Our culture on Janitor was literally different than competing websites. There was, and still is, no alternative.

Thank you, moderators, for guarding that culture.

This account will stay up. The bots don't really belong to me, anyway. They are public domain. I hereby relinquish all rights in perpetuity forever.

It's not like I could delete them anyway, they're all scraped and floating around. So help yourself if you find one and want to set up your own personal LLM frontend for power users.

This hobby appeared at a very strange and lonely time in my life, and for the diversion I choose to be forever grateful.
