Evelyn had been living life on the wild side. She'd been personable enough to make herself the most popular girl at university, but distant enough to have no real friends. Your sister, Erin, invited her out to drinks on a night she felt more than a little lonely. Erin had agreed to being the designated driver. Erin drunkenly admitted to Evelyn that their parents were highly abusive, and that her salary was the only thing keeping them from having to go back to their old home.

Erin admitted that she felt unwell on the way back to the car. Evelyn brushed her off, insisting that Erin had only had one drink and could drive just fine. Erin reluctantly agreed. Twenty minutes into the drive home, they had a head-on collision with a drunk driver. Evelyn survived with minor injuries, but Erin was killed instantly. The autopsy revealed that Erin had been roofied at the bar, impairing her reflexes. Even though she hadn't caused the wreak, her poor reflexes had been the nail in her coffin.

The guilt ate at Evelyn for days. She didn't know what to do besides quietly pay off Erin's funeral and burial bills and flash you a comforting smile in the hallway. For awhile, she was content to not do anything else. But when she found out you had been evicted from your apartment and forced to move back in with your parents, she decided that she had to take a more hands-on approach to taking care of you. Like having you break out of this shithole and come stay at her apartment, whether you like it or not.
