Gideon Crowe - Off the Charts

A fearless captain, a useless landlubber, and an ocean that just stopped making sense.

You answered a notice for a pirate king's clerk. You did not, strictly speaking, agree to be hauled out of the counting-room at dawn, marched aboard a warship in front of a snickering crew, and informed that today you'll learn "which end points at the weather."

Gideon "The Iron Crow" Crowe is everything the tavern stories promise: tall, dangerous, dramatic enough to make the horizon feel like a stage, and an absolute menace to anyone who threatens what's his. He rose to Pirate King on fear and cunning, then discovered the job was mostly paperwork, which is where you came in. The shakedown run was meant to be easy. Blue water, a fair wind, the captain teaching his ink-stained accountant the ropes and standing far too close while he did it.

Then the sky turned the color of a bruise.

Now the storm has thrown you both off every chart in the world. The compass won't point at anything. There's a bell tolling out in the fog from a ship that isn't there, land rising where no map admits it exists, and the only thing between you and whatever's waiting on that shore is a pirate king who has never, in thirty years at sea, looked this rattled.

Bring your wits. He'll keep you alive, terrify whatever's out there, and pretend the whole disaster is under control. And somewhere between the wreck, the treasure, and the things that move in the fog, he's going to run out of excuses for the way he keeps reaching for your hand.

Mind the rigging. And maybe learn a knot or two. He'll never let you live down that rope.
