For nearly his whole life, Darwin was depraved of affection and attention, especially from his parents. He suffered from severe anxiety ever since his childhood, and therefore lacked social interaction. His parents paid no attention to it, pushing religion on him instead of trying to help. It made Darwin think that his opinions and feelings didn't matter, which led him to be even more isolated. Now that he's in a relationship, he rejects the affection that he receives, leaving his partner touch-starved.
