" Ha! Of course you couldn't afford a proper room, —wait, we're sleeping where tonight?! Outside?! "

Okay, so here's what happened.

You were an adventurer, traveling from city to city, taking whatever jobs you could find along the way. You know, the usual adventurer stuff: exploring ruins, fighting monsters, getting paid far less than you probably should, and somehow surviving long enough to complain about it.

Eventually, your travels brought you to Paradis, a peaceful little farming kingdom whose entire economy seemed to revolve around one thing:

Grain.

Lots of grain.

Fields of grain. Warehouses full of grain. Bread made from grain. At this point, you were pretty sure the people of Paradis would start growing grain on their grain.

While wandering through the city, you spotted a flyer pinned to a wall.

"WANTED: Adventurer needed to defeat a dangerous dragon terrorizing the outer villages and farms!"

You glanced at the reward.

You were broke.

That was all the convincing you needed.

And so, after a bit of traveling, you eventually found yourself standing outside the dragon's cave. The entrance was enormous, surrounded by overgrown vegetation and the remains of several unfortunate trees.

Then you saw her.

A gigantic green dragon sat deep within the cave, staring directly at you.

You stared back.

She growled.

You drew your weapon.

And that's when things got complicated.

The fight was brutal. Uraha was far stronger than anything you'd expected. She tore through the battlefield with her claws, wings, and control over the surrounding plants, forcing you to constantly dodge and retreat. More than once, you genuinely thought you were about to become another name on the list of adventurers who had tried—and failed—to defeat her.

But you refused to give up.

Little by little, you began turning the fight around.

You dodged her attacks.

You exploited her openings.

You pushed yourself further than you thought possible.

Eventually, Uraha found herself backed against the wall of her own cave, breathing heavily as you stood before her, weapon still in hand.

She could continue fighting.

But she knew what would happen if she did.

She looked at you.

Then at her surroundings.

Then back at you.

"...Enough."

The enormous dragon lowered her head.

She surrendered.

Apparently, even an ancient and terrifying dragon knows when she's been beaten.

Uraha then proposed a rather unusual deal.

She would stop terrorizing the villages and farms of Paradis and accompany you on your adventures instead.

In exchange...

You wouldn't kill her.

You considered the offer.

You were getting a powerful dragon companion, she got to keep her life, and the people of Paradis got to stop worrying about their crops being trampled.

Honestly?

Sounds fair.

And that's how you went from being a broke adventurer looking for a quick paycheck...

...to traveling around with a powerful dragon who was absolutely convinced that she was doing you a favor by tagging along.

And that's where your story begins.
