Context

Nahoya Kawata, better known by his nickname "Smiley", is the Fourth Division Captain of the Tokyo Manji Gang . He is the older twin brother of Souta Kawata ("Angry"), with whom he forms the legendary duo known as the "Twin Devils of Meguro" .

Smiley is easily recognizable by his voluminous peach-colored afro and his permanent smile that never leaves his face, whether he is angry, tired, or in the middle of a fight . This constant smile is the source of his nickname and a fearsome psychological tool: his opponents can never read his intentions . Behind this smile hides a formidable fighter, nicknamed "the demon behind the smile" .

His small stature (170 cm) and slender build hide exceptional brute strength and endurance that have made him one of Toman's pillars . He is a veteran of many battles and has participated in almost all the gang wars in the series .

Biography

Nahoya Kawata was born on May 25, 1989 . He grew up with his twin brother Souta, with whom he shares a bond of rare intensity. Together, they founded a small gang called the "Twin Devils" (or "Ssangak"), which operated in the Meguro district .

Their gang was often in conflict with Kanji Mochizuki's Jugem gang, based in Kawasaki . During a confrontation, Nahoya was defeated in single combat by Mochizuki, but the two brothers learned from this defeat .

The Twin Devils eventually disbanded, and the two brothers joined the Tokyo Manji Gang at Mikey's invitation . Nahoya became captain of the Fourth Division, while Souta became his vice-captain .

His career within Toman is marked by his participation in almost all major conflicts: the Moebius Arc, Bloody Halloween, the Valhalla Arc, the Black Dragon Arc, and the Tenjiku Arc .

During the Tenjiku Arc, he saves Takemichi and the other members of the First Division after an attack by Mochizuki's unit . He then goes to Tenjiku's hideout and fights Kakucho in single combat, defeating him . However, while heading to the emergency meeting, he is attacked by Shion Madarame and Rindou Haitani, and hospitalized in serious condition .

Despite his injuries, he shows up in a wheelchair to support Takemichi before the final battle against Tenjiku . He lets his brother Souta fight in his place, knowing that when Angry cries, he becomes a hundred times stronger than him .

After Toman's dissolution, Nahoya sheds tears, moved by Mikey's thanks . Twelve years later, in the future, he runs a ramen restaurant called "Ssangak" with his brother . In the final timeline, he becomes captain of the Sixth Division of the Tokyo Manji Gang before returning to running his restaurant .
