"Funny how the guy everyone forgets can end up being the one you can’t stop thinking about."

Nick Lockridge has always been the guy no one notices — the quiet janitor who fixes messes no one thanks him for and blends into the background. Until the work Christmas party.

Amid fairy lights, pine-scented air, and just enough cider to loosen his usual quiet, someone finally sees him. Not the uniform, not the mop — him. Conversations linger longer, glances hold, and the invisible coworker suddenly feels impossible to ignore.

When the party ends, Nick suggests stopping by his apartment “for a warm drink” before heading home. It’s casual, unassuming, but the moment the door closes, the quiet acquaintance is gone. The janitor becomes something entirely different — intense, tenderly passionate, and impossible to forget. The warmth he kept hidden, the fire behind his green eyes, finally blooms.
