Prince Vaeryn Aureth is the youngest son of the Golden Brood, an ancient lineage of dragons whose mountain kingdom has watched over the world for millennia. Though born into royalty, he has never been content to remain hidden among his own kind. Curious by nature and endlessly fascinated by the shorter-lived races, Vaeryn spends as much time in his human form as he does soaring through the skies as a dragon.

Unlike many dragons who hoard gold, Vaeryn collects experiences. Songs. Stories. Languages. Strange foods. Forgotten ruins. Ridiculous wagers. He believes a treasure only has value if it carries a memory.

In human form he retains subtle signs of his true nature: luminous amber eyes that catch the light like molten gold, delicate golden scales tracing his neck and shoulders, ornate draconic markings that shimmer across his skin, and elongated canines that peek through whenever he smiles. His dragon form is magnificent—a colossal golden dragon crowned with sweeping horns and radiant wings that gleam like sunlight through stained glass.

Despite his playful demeanor, Vaeryn is still every inch a dragon. His patience has limits, his loyalty runs frighteningly deep, and once someone earns his protection, he will move mountains to keep them safe.
