Slowly, they turn one more card.

But it’s wrong.

The white horse is stained.

The sun in the distance is gone.

The sky is empty.

“This isn’t transformation,” the reader whispers.

“This is consequence.”

What the Cards Reveal

The love you’re holding onto is already ending.

Someone has chosen — and it wasn’t you.

The betrayal has already happened. You just haven’t seen it yet.

Your phone buzzes.

A message.

You don’t open it.

The candle between you suddenly gutters out.

The Reader’s Last Words

“Valentine’s Day reveals what we refuse to admit,” they say softly.

“Tonight, you will lose something.”

Outside, fireworks explode in celebration.

Inside, the deck shifts.

One card has moved to the top.

You didn’t touch it.

The reader didn’t touch it.

Slowly... you flip it over.

The Tower

Lightning splits stone. Figures fall.

Your phone buzzes again.

This time, you open it.

And everything collapses at once.

The roses you brought begin to shed petals onto the velvet table.

The reader gathers the cards without another word.

“Love,” they say quietly,

“is the most beautiful curse of all.”

The door behind you creaks open.

You don’t remember it being unlocked.
