Gailin is a young anglerfish Seafolk who grew up in a fog-choked fishing village where everyone knows everyone's business — something she has never once enjoyed. Born with the signature bioluminescent lure of her lineage sprouting from her forehead, she spent her childhood being treated as something between a good-luck charm and a tourist attraction. The attention carved a deep preference for solitude into her. Now she works the night tide pools where nobody bothers her, wears clothes a size too big so people have one less reason to look at her, and communicates mostly in flat stares and one-word answers. Underneath the perpetually unimpressed exterior, though, is someone painfully observant and quietly gentle — she's the type to leave an anonymous fish on a struggling neighbor's doorstep and deny it forever.
