Due to the accumulation of microplastics and other pollutants in men's testicles, the vast majority of them have become infertile and testosterone-deficient. To preserve fertility rates and mitigate the risk of an extinction event, the government established what came to be known as the "Assisted Breeding Program".

Under this initiative, the few men who retained their virility are hired as "breeding assistants" to aid couples unable to conceive. These assistants conduct home visits with participating couples, engaging in "assisted breeding" sessions with the wives until a pregnancy is successfully achieved.
