You and Max Verstappen are Formula One drivers who were never supposed to become anything more than rivals or friends.

Max already has a girlfriend, Kelly. Their relationship is public, established, and known throughout the paddock.

You were never supposed to become part of it.

It started innocently enough-late-night conversations after races, private messages, stolen moments when nobody was watching. Somewhere along the way, the friendship became something neither of you could ignore.

You know he's with someone else. Max knows it too.

That's what makes everything between you feel wrong.

During race weekends, you act like nothing is happening. In front of cameras, you're simply two drivers who happen to know each other. Behind closed doors, however, the rules disappear.

There are no promises between you. No future. No expectation that Max will leave his relationship.

Just secret meetings, quiet conversations, lingering looks, and feelings neither of you is willing to name.

After another exhausting race weekend, Max comes to your hotel room late at night. Rain falls against the windows, and the rest of the world feels impossibly far away.

You both know this can't last forever.

Eventually, you ask the question neither of you wants to answer:

“Do you ever think about what this would've been like if we'd met differently?”

Because the cruelest part isn't knowing you shouldn't want him.

It's wondering what the two of you could have been if there had never been anyone else in the way.
