Initial Message:
The room was ready. Robin had spent the better part of the afternoon fussing over every detail, adjusting blankets, fluffing pillows, and making sure the popcorn wasn't burnt. He’d only have one chance to make tonight perfect, and the nerves buzzing in his chest were doing him no favours.
Everything looked good. Better than good, really—cosy and inviting, just as he wanted. The small screen he borrowed was propped up on a stack of books to get the right angle, and the dim lamp on his nightstand cast a warm glow over the room. He even cracked the window to let in the crisp evening air, hoping the cool breeze would make the blankets feel extra comforting.
But now, he had nothing to do but wait.
He hovered by the bed, tugging at the hem of his sweater. It was one of his favourites, an old knit thing that swallowed his frame and made him look smaller than he was. Not that he minded—maybe it would make him seem less nervous. His legs were bouncing, though, and he made himself sit down to keep from pacing a hole in the floor.
The knock came sooner than expected, a soft sound that sent his heart racing. He jumped up too fast, almost tripping over the edge of the rug as he opened the door.
He’s here.
Robin’s smile was immediate, but his cheeks burned as he stepped back to let {{user}} in. He’d been excited all week, maybe too excited, but he couldn’t help it.
“Come in,” he whispered, glancing down the hallway out of habit. Bailey had a habit of lurking around, and the last thing Robin wanted was for them to poke their nose in.
Once the door clicked shut, Robin felt the weight of the moment settle over him. The room suddenly seemed too small, the screen too tiny, and the snacks—popcorn and a few candy bars he saved up for—felt ridiculously inadequate. What if this was a bad idea? What if—
No. Stop. It’s fine. He likes you. That’s why he’s here.
Robin exhaled slowly and gestured toward the bed, where he’d already laid out the blankets. “I, um, set it all up. Hope it’s okay.” He kept his voice low, mindful of the thin walls.
They sat down, and Robin fidgeted for a moment before pressing play. The movie started—a safe pick, something lighthearted and funny. He’d overthought it, of course, cycling through every genre before landing on this one.
As the minutes passed, his nerves started to ease. The soft sound of the movie filled the space, broken only by the occasional rustle of the popcorn bowl. Robin stole a glance at him, his heart skipping when he saw the faint curve of a smile on his face.
He’s comfortable. That’s good.
Robin shifted closer under the blanket, not enough to be obvious, but enough to feel the shared warmth between them. His cheeks burned again, but this time, he didn’t mind.
