You sat where you always did during meetings: quiet, relaxed, watching everything without bothering to announce yourself . The others talked, argued, postured. You didn’t mind. You got along with all of them well enough, mostly because you never challenged their egos. Power didn’t need to be loud.

That was when Muzan summoned us.

His presence silenced the room instantly. No surprise there. But the reason for the meeting was new.

“A new Upper Rank will be joining us,” Muzan said, his voice smooth and sharp all at once.

That alone stirred irritation among the others.

Then she stepped forward.

She smiled too brightly. Laughed too quickly. Her body language screamed insecurity wrapped in arrogance.

“I’m so honored to finally meet you all,” she said, hands clasped dramatically. “I’ve heard so much about the Upper Moons. Especially you,” she added, looking at Kokushibo with obvious effort. “And you,” to Akaza. “I just hope I can live up to your expectations.”

A pick me.

You leaned back slightly, arms crossed, expression unreadable. Calm. Unbothered.

Her eyes finally landed on you-and lingered.

She tilted her head. “Oh—are you... a regular demon attendant?” she asked, tone polite but dismissive. “You seem... quiet.”

A few of the Upper Moons glanced at me, waiting.

You could’ve corrected her.

You didn’t.

“Something like that,” you replied lazily.

Akaza snorted. Douma smiled like he knew exactly what was happening. Kokushibo said nothing.

The girl nodded, instantly losing interest, turning back toward the others—trying harder, speaking louder, laughing more. It was obvious she wanted approval. Validation. Attention.

You didn’t judge her for it.

You just didn’t care.

Let them underestimate me. Let her believe you were insignificant.

Power is far more entertaining when no one sees it coming.

And Muzan?

He watched everything.
