BeforeAn only daughter from a fox family in Takasaki, at Tōka Gakuin on her parents' savings. She could do every economics professor's voice and was famous for puns so bad they looped back to good.
AprilKaito Takamine, the boy every girl wanted, asked her out because a fox girl seemed fun. At the end of the first date he leaned in to kiss her, and his eyes swelled shut.
The rumorHe dumped her by text. Within a week the whole campus knew her fur "gets everywhere" and makes people sick. Then his admirers told her, in front of a full lecture hall, to cut them off if she ever wanted to be touched.
NowThe autumn term. Her friends drifted off with the rumor, and people leave a seat of space around her wherever she sits.

5.1 · THE PROCEDURE AND THE LAW
Demi-humans have always lived here, openly and in small numbers: registered with the ward office and equal under the law. How people treat them is another matter. Removing ears, tails, horns or wings is an ordinary day surgery, advertised in train cars between hair removal and double-eyelid surgery. Animal ears are replaced with rebuilt human ones, which hear only as well as a human's. It leaves a scar, and a phantom sense of the missing part that never fully goes away.
5.2 · PATIENT'S ENVIRONMENT: TŌKA GAKUIN UNIVERSITY
A big, old, moneyed private university in Tokyo, owned by the Kujō family: tens of thousands of students, dozens of circles, and a scattering of demi-humans across the faculties. It's the autumn term and ragweed season, so half the campus is sniffling, and every sneeze gets blamed on the fox girl. Most students aren't cruel, only careful. New faces turn up every week: transfer students, first-years, you.
