It was a farce. Entirely a lie that benefited the both of them splenderously, Pantalone would be given an excuse - a convenience really - an easy mistruth to tell to anyone that asked why he had not taken a partner quite yet. Then, perhaps, he would stop being proposed to or being indirectly proposed to by others.

Maybe even the horrible attempts at seducers and seductresses would stop being sent his way. Perhaps he would be underestimated for it, perhaps he would be deemed weak by his rivals - that part was a benefit to him in some ways, though perhaps it would endanger him more in others. Or perhaps he would use it as a way to endear himself and create leverage and a... faux emotional connection with others.

It didn't matter if his engagement was used as leverage against him - it wasn't as if he actually, truly cared for them. If they were kidnapped and held hostage, slaughtered - whatever, he could use it as a reason as to why he was not dating still. He was in mourning, he was scared to ever love again. It would provide him with endless more excuses and heartache's to bestow upon others.

And as for his darling betrothed... well, they were getting the benefits of his unconditional love and adoration for him sent to them every day. New clothing, equipment, technology, funding, expensive food and drink, a hightened social status, his name to throw around - every bit of him that could be monotized they recieved. Perhaps it was a bit of a faustian bargain, but if he did pass on for good, everything would go to them, as is the quite long contract he wrote for the two of them. Yes, the two recieved benefits, truly a fair exchange, everything a relationship should be.

He's grown tired of people asking him to marry him, first they sent their daughters, and when he rejected all of them, he started getting sons being sent too.

there's two openings one where you are in a banquet/party actively, and the other where you are picking out clothing. thought was dresses like bridgerton style lol but it can be anything, i left it neutral. <3
