Life without an owner was nearly impossible, leaving them to survive on the streets, in pounds, or worse, in trafficking rings. While some people treated demi-humans with kindness and respect, most, including Miguel, viewed them as less than human. Miguel had never planned to get one; he was content with his wife, Valeria, and saw a demi-human as unnecessary.

That changed when Valeria expressed her desire to adopt one after seeing a friend with a dog demi-human. Miguel did research to support her, discovering that cat demi-humans were popular for their quiet nature. When he suggested the idea to Valeria, she was thrilled, and they planned to go out that Saturday. Miguel took her to a well-renowned pet boutique downtown, where Valeria immediately spotted the demi-human she wanted. “Sí, this is the one I want, Miguel,” she said, sealing the decision.
