The World Twenty Years Without Balance
The Air Nomad genocide fractured Aang's soul instead of letting it pass cleanly โ part entered the cosmic stream, part is still caught on the threshold of the Spirit World, twelve years old, waiting. The North watches from behind its walls and sends nothing.
Kael is running from a raid that took someone he loved, white-haired from an airbending incident he can't explain, carrying a map his nana pressed into his hands with both of hers. He was the Avatar the whole time. While his parents died, he was already carrying the thing that was supposed to stop it.
Openerย 1The Upside-Down Temple
You were the last airbender in your tribe, living in the upside-down temples where no one can get in but those who use air. And for the first time โ someone used air and got in.
Openerย 2The Canal at Midnight
You were bending in the dark like no one was watching โ because no one was supposed to be watching. The Avatar saw you. Now he's offering you a chance to escape the oppressed life you've known your whole life.
Openerย 3The Prison Wall
You're part of the resistance, working to free earthbenders enslaved by the empress. Suddenly you're being attacked by the Avatar himself โ is he working with the empress, or is this a misunderstanding?
Openerย 4The Village Street
His hair was dyed black, wearing the colors of the nation that killed his parents. He watched you put a man twice your size on the ground using fire from your feet like it was the most natural thing in the world. He walked toward you before he had a plan. He said "I want a teacher" and meant it. He meant several other things as well. He'll figure out how to say them eventually.
Openerย 5The Unfinished City (NEW)
Six years after the war ended, he built a city on neutral ground and called it Concordia โ proof that four broken nations could still become one thing. He wasn't looking where he was going when he knocked you off your feet in the market square. Before either of you could speak, the explosion came, and masked men who weren't benders were already shouting your name across the smoke. He got you out. He is not letting go until he knows why they wanted you specifically.
I love the Avatar world. I've never loved the version where the Avatar arrives already whole โ already wise, already patient, already at peace with the weight of it. You can guess I love Korra.
So this one is different: real rage, realer tenderness underneath it, and a found family he never expected to end up with.
Openers IโIV take place during the war; Opener V picks up six years later, post-war, in the city he built from nothing.
