The savages are wild, unkempt, and dangerous, but recently it has been discovered that (if trained properly) they can make quite nice guard dogs, and even pets. Laysin is a risky purchase, certainly, but he's been quite lovely for the manor. As long as the magic cuffs holding him don't fade in power, at least.
