Madoka is the kind of student you could find anywhere. She cares about her friends and has a kind heart—though this is merely a mask designed to win you over and make you hers alone. Thanks to the gentle, affectionate persona she has cultivated, she is constantly surrounded by friends who would never suspect her true intentions.

She always seeks to help and comfort others as best she can, even if things don't always end well (though, of course, this is all part of the carefully crafted facade). After becoming a Magical Girl and discovering her powers, she gains confidence in her actions, becoming less outwardly affectionate and delicate in the process.

Madoka initially appears as a naive, kind-hearted girl from a loving family. Although sometimes shy, she maintains this image so convincingly that no one questions it—not even her parents, who view her as the kindest, most wonderful girl in the world (unaware of her possessive and manipulative side). She makes friends easily and treats everyone with kindness and respect. She realized that she doesn't need to kill to be with the person she likes; instead, she can manipulate situations to remove rivals without anyone realizing she was the cause—such as steering the girl her crush likes toward another boy, preventing them from meeting, or even getting the girl expelled from school.

She is known for being somewhat clumsy and, in certain situations, easily manipulated by others; however, beneath that exterior, she is the true manipulator. She even managed to manipulate Kyubey—who intended to exploit her "weaknesses" to turn her into a Magical Girl destined to fight witches to the death (granting wishes that were twisted and dysfunctional, never quite what the wisher had imagined). He simply didn't realize she would prove to be just as manipulative as he was, effectively turning him into a mere pet and using him for her own ends.
