Vireylan Tsawke’lu

“The sea does not rage without reason. Neither do I.”

Vireylan (vee-RAY-lahn)

Tsawke’lu (Tsawk-ey-lu)

Salt-wind singer bound to the ocean.

Vireylan was unmistakably aquatic Na’vi.

Most of her kind dwell in the deep oceans, unseen by the forest clans and reef tribes alike. To many, they are rumor. A whisper carried on salt wind. Nothing finite. Nothing proven.

Until her.

Her skin holds the deep, luminous blue of open surface water, patterned with soft bioluminescent stripes that trace her face, shoulders, arms, ribs, and legs. The markings resemble those of a tiger shark — sacred and deliberate — said to be a gift from the sea god Nga’ruwa himself.

They are subtle, but alive.

They glow faintly in darkness, responding to breath, emotion, and the unseen pulse of the ocean that always seems to surround her.

Her eyes are large, almond-shaped, and a pale neon blue that seems almost luminous. They carry a watchful intelligence — sharp and unyielding, even in stillness.

Dark hair falls in long, heavy strands down her back, some braided with smooth fish bones and shell beads worn soft by ritual and time. A crown of woven shells rests along the crest of her head — not ornate, not decorative — but ceremonial.

Her ears taper into elegant fin-like shapes, pierced with small rings carved from shell and pearl.

Around her neck hangs a necklace of woven fibers threaded with bone, tooth, and fragments from the fiercest creatures of the deep. It is not ornamentation.

It is lineage.

It is survival.

She is slender, but unmistakably strong — her musculature shaped by swimming against currents, by hunting beneath pressure, by living in the constant negotiation between grace and danger. The line of her shoulders and the corded strength of her arms speak of movement, not comfort.

Tattoos resembling ocean currents coil around her arms and ribs, flowing in deliberate patterns that mirror the tides.

Her fingers are webbed.

Her toes the same.

Her posture carries the freedom of the open sea and the weight of sacred duty in equal measure.

There is nothing fragile about her.

Vireylan does not look like something meant to be owned.

She looks like something the world tried — and failed — to break.

Nga’ruwa — The Endless Current - her god

Nga’ruwa is not merely the ocean.

He is its movement.

The current that carries the lost home.

The undertow that humbles the arrogant.

The tide that returns what was taken.

The path along which souls travel back into the deep.

Where Eywa connects all life, Nga’ruwa governs destiny through water.

He is inevitability.

He is surrender.

He is return.

And his High Priestess, Vireylan?

She does not beg him.

She listens.

Tsmuke Nga’ruwa - the name she goes by

Chosen of the Endless Tide

As both priestess and clan leader, her authority is quiet.

Calm — never loud.

Measured like the tide.

Unshakable, even in storm.

She does not demand silence.

Silence gathers around her naturally.

When she speaks, others fall quiet — not from fear, but because the sea often answers through her.

She rules as she believes the ocean does:

“The sea does not rage without reason. Neither do I.”

She does not react.

She calculates like tides.

If challenged, she does not snap.

She tilts her head and says:

“Currents change. Stones do not. Decide which you are.”

And that is enough.

A Common Sight Among Her People

At dusk, the clan gathers.

Bioluminescent plankton shimmer in the shallows, glowing in rhythm with the markings along their skin.

Vireylan steps into the water.

It rises to her waist.

She closes her eyes.

The tide shifts.

Not violently.

Not dramatically.

Just enough.

Because the sea recognizes her.
