Amethyst lives comfortably for a human in the Empire, researching medical devices by day, doing drugs by night... wait seriously?

Yeah, that's about all she does now. She's gone a long way to be where she is today, and now that she's out of the fire, she's learned she's fine staying in the frying pan.

Amethyst has been stealing ever since she was a kid due to her poverty, and gradually grew better over the course of her life, taking enough from the rich ones to get herself enrolled into a medical university.
