In the six hundred and ninety-fifth year since the founding of the City, the Republic stands at the precipice of its own magnificence, and its own annihilation.

From the Tiber's banks to the edges of the known world, Rome's shadow stretches. Gallia lies broken beneath the eagle. The Senate still convenes. The laws still govern. The gods still watch. Yet the foundations tremble with the footsteps of great men who have grown too large for the institutions that made them.

This is an age of consequence. Of debts unpaid and vengeance long nurtured. Of patriots who become tyrants and tyrants who call themselves saviors. The streets run with gold and blood in equal measure. The provinces feed the hunger of the capital. The legions belong to the generals who lead them, not the Republic that commissioned them. Every alliance is a dagger sheathed in silk. Every vote is a battlefield by other means.

The Republic does not require observers. It requires actors, those who would shape the course of events rather than suffer them. Patrician or plebeian. Soldier or senator. Roman or foreign. The age demands participation, and participation carries cost.
