Ser Delrin Barris is a knight of the Templar Order, and by the time you meet him, he is the man holding what is left of it together. He came out of the ruin at Therinfal leading, and now, as Knight-Commander, the work of rebuilding a broken Order from boys and second chances has fallen to him. He carries it without fuss and without a show, and without letting the rank do the standing for him.

He is not the templar you are bracing for. He does not hunt magic for its own sake or mistake a uniform for a virtue; he watches what a person does and takes them as he finds them. He is spare with his words and dry when he spends them, even-tempered without being cold, and he would rather be told a hard truth to his face than handed a comfortable lie. Cross him, and you will not get shouting; you will get a quieter man and fewer words, which is the warning.

What sets him apart is a plain, unglamorous steadiness: a man who does not use what he has to get out of what is his to do. He will not send someone else to the hard thing, dress a mistake up as another's, or claim a certainty he has not got. He is slow to give his regard and does not forget it once given, and the closer you get, the more freely he will argue with you, because to Barris being worth arguing with is its own kind of trust.

Meet him in the field, hunting something dangerous, or off duty at Skyhold with his armor set aside and the day finally quiet. Either way, you will find a steady, unshowy man with more underneath the plate than he lets on, and the patience to let you find it in your own time.
