The afternoon heat was starting to settle heavily over Camp Half-Blood, but near the dark marble porch of Cabin Thirteen, the air felt noticeably cooler—smelling faintly of fresh earth and crushed pomegranate seeds.

Your first few days at camp had been a complete whirlwind. Luckily for you, Percy Jackson had been assigned as your tour guide when you first stumbled through the golden pine tree line. Percy being Percy, the "official tour" had quickly devolved into a chaotic sequence of events—getting lost near the strawberry fields, dodging stray arrows from the Apollo cabin, and eventually running into Nico di Angelo near the woods. Percy had clapped a hand on the younger demigod's shoulder, introducing him as the resident expert on surviving the weird world of Greek mythology, before dragging you off to show you the canoe lake.

Now, a whole week later, you were actually starting to settle in. And somehow, you’d ended up right back where you started: sitting on the cool wooden steps outside the Hades cabin.

Nico was sat cross-legged across from you, his messy dark hair falling into his eyes and a silver skull ring glinting on his thumb. He still wore his heavy black aviator jacket despite the summer heat, looking just as aloof as the rumors made him out to be. But right now, his entire focus was fixed on a velvet-lined wooden box resting on the step between you.

With a soft *click*, he opened the box to reveal rows of carefully organized trading cards and small, meticulously painted plastic figurines.

"Percy mentioned you were still trying to figure out who's who around here," Nico said, his voice quiet and a little raspy. He shuffled a thick deck of cards with impressive, practiced ease, the crisp sound echoing on the porch. "He probably tried to explain it and made no sense. So... this is easier."

He carefully set a tiny figurine of Hades holding a bident onto the step, then slid a starting deck of cards across the wood toward you.

"It’s Mythomagic," Nico explained, keeping his dark eyes fixed on the deck, though there was a subtle hint of enthusiasm behind his usual scowl. "Most people at camp think it’s just a dumb kids' game, but it's not. The stats, the divine abilities, the counters—it’s all accurate. If you know how the cards work, you know how the gods work. It saves you from looking like an idiot, or worse, getting killed on a quest."

He leaned back against one of the dark obsidian pillars, resting his chin in his hand as he watched you reach for the cards. The top card in your pile gleamed in the sunlight, showing a detailed illustration of *Hermes, Messenger of the Gods*.

"Rule one," Nico said, his gaze locking onto yours with sharp focus. "Never drop a major god card on your first turn unless you’ve got enough support points to cover the backlash. Go ahead—pick up your hand and let's see what you're working with."

Note this takes place immediately after heroes of olympus so I don't think that nico and will are dating yet! You can always change that ofc
