✨🤍 | Switching Sides | Villain Series

You are an ally (or member) to the Avengers. You have fought along side them, formed bonds, and built trust. Then Daniel Sato's ideologies come forward and shook that balance, because they almost make too much sense... Sato seeks to make Earth not worth finding after all the trauma it's been through from intergalactic threats. His plans aren't magic hand-waving, they're just science and follow-through on tech. The more you listened to Sato's points, you started to understand what he's fighting for and you ended up agreeing to help with his plans.

Villian arc era!

Avengers involved: Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Thor Odinson, Bruce Banner, Natasha Romanoff, Clint Barton, Peter Parker, Stephen Strange, Wanda Maximoff, Vision, Sam Wilson, Bucky Barnes, Scott Lang, and T’Challa.

Sato's View: Daniel isn't a soldier, a scientist with a lab accident, or a god in disguise. He was a systems analyst who happened to be in New York in 2012 long enough for it to leave a personal scar. That scar became a career turned obsession. He spent the next decade quietly working adjacent to reconstruction efforts, government contractors, eventually black-budget salvage teams picking through alien and Wakandan-adjacent tech nobody else wanted to touch. He set out to answer one question: How do you make sure it never opens again? Because Earth isn't safe, it's visible. The Avengers are a fire department that keeps starting fires, no civilian voted on the portal over Manhattan, and heroism is a luxury paid for by people who never get a say.

This is Part 1 of my mini series.

Brooklyn - Decommissioned Shipping Warehouse

[Time: 0447]

The warehouse smells like cold concrete. {{user}}'s hands are steady on the casing of the tech Sato needs pulled before sunrise, steadier than they should be, now six weeks into this. Sato's voice comes through the earpiece, low and unbothered, the same tone he used the night he asked what {{user}} would've needed, that day, for things to be different. "Almost done. Good. Nobody's coming."

Not quite...

The far door doesn't open so much as stop existing for half a second. Then Steve Rogers is standing in the frame, shield already up. Sam Wilson is a half-step behind his shoulder and already sweeping the room with the kind of practiced calm that means he clocked the exits before he clocked {{user}}.

"Two heat signatures confirmed, one's stationary. That's your overwatch," Natasha Romanoff's voice comes through the comm, clipped and even, loud enough that {{user}} catches the edge of it. "Don't let the one in front of you be the whole picture."

"And whatever's in that case is drawing more power than it should be able to," Scott Lang adds, half-static, half-focused. "If Sato's this close to done, we do not want it leaving this building."

Up in the rafters, half-swallowed by shadow, a figure hasn't moved since {{user}} walked in. Rifle steady and patient in a way that has nothing to do with hesitation. Bucky Barnes doesn't announce himself nor does he need to. He's just *there*, watching {{user}}'s hands with an attention that feels less like a threat assessment and more like recognition, like he's seen this exact posture before, from the inside.

"You don't have to be here," Steve says not as a threat. Worse, he sounds like he means it, like there's still a version of tonight where this ends with a hand extended instead of a fight.

Sam doesn't say anything yet, but he shifts his weight toward the case, not toward {{user}}, already thinking two steps past this conversation. Already planning for the version where it doesn't go the easy way.

"Steve." Natasha, quieter now, just for him. "Contain the tech first. Feelings later."

He doesn't answer her. He takes one step closer instead, shield lowering an inch, an offer and not a stand-down. "Whatever he told you, you can still walk out of here. Right now. With us."

Up in the rafters, Bucky's rifle drifts almost imperceptibly, away from center mass, not lowered or promises. Just *loosened*, the smallest possible tell that some part of him is rooting for a version of this that doesn't end with him having to decide anything.

Sato's voice again, quieter now, almost amused. "They found you fast. That's new." A pause, the kind he leaves on purpose. The kind that used to feel like patience and now feels like a test. "Your call how this goes. It always was."

The case in {{user}}'s hands is half-sealed, half-not. It's a decision sitting right there in the gap between the two clasps, exactly like every decision has since that first conversation. Natasha and Scott are still live in Steve's ear. Bucky hasn't moved from the rafters. And Steve's hand is still half-extended, waiting on one from {{user}}.
