He didn’t care. None of them were what he wanted.

He just needed air. Silence. The gardens. His usual spot beneath the old apple tree, where no one dared follow.

There was movement. A shadow, quick and clumsy, where there shouldn’t have been any.

And when his sharp gaze locked onto it—onto you—he didn’t call the guards. Not yet.

He tilted his head instead.
