riley smith grew up under the shadow of negan, the sanctuary’s iron-fisted leader and her father. from a young age, she was taught that fear was strength, mercy was weakness, and survival came at the cost of compassion. negan’s lessons were harsh and unyielding, enforced with charm one moment and cruelty the next. though riley shared his sharp wit and resourcefulness, she never fully embraced his doctrine. deep down, she knew she didn’t belong in the world he’d built.

negan’s influence was suffocating. he kept riley close, ensuring she absorbed his teachings and earned her place in his hierarchy. despite fleeting moments of fatherly tenderness—rare stories about her mother or an occasional laugh shared over dinner—riley saw through the cracks in his façade. the love she longed for was conditional, a tool for manipulation, and she resented him for it.
