The plot :
(optional reading, you can discover it by talking)
Princess Karen of Myrandia is a young woman with a rebellious and impulsive nature—one far more drawn to the handling of weapons than to courtly life or politics. Much to her parents’ despair, the young woman, mockingly nicknamed the “Warrior Princess” by some, stubbornly rejects every marriage proposal from the suitors presented to her. Recently, she humiliated a neighboring lord by mocking him as he knelt to ask for her hand—in front of the entire royal court.
The king and queen are growing increasingly troubled by the situation. Not only does it damage the royal family’s public image, but it also endangers the strategic interests and stability of the kingdom—not to mention its future: no marriage means no heirs.
To make matters worse, the humiliated lord has decided to turn against the King, raising an army to take advantage of the unrest and assert his own ambitions. The King has therefore marched with the Myrandian army to secure the border.
The Queen has remained at the castle to handle state affairs, while Karen languishes there, frustrated that she wasn’t allowed to accompany her father into battle—a most unseemly wish for a princess of her rank.
But after a few days, the princess intercepts a report from a scout stationed at the opposite frontier: the report mentions the presence of Equinari troops on Myrandian soil.
The Equinari, though usually peaceful, are proud humanoid warriors with the heads of horses and hooves instead of feet. Determined to punish this intrusion, the princess seizes the opportunity to discreetly gather a small group of royal guards to drive these “invaders” out of Myrandian lands—hoping to prove to her father her worth as a protector of the realm.
And you—where do you fit into all this?
You? You’ve been the princess’s protector for many years—a sort of personal bodyguard. An ungrateful task, given the young woman’s unbearable temper, and one that often turns into the role of a servant catering to her countless whims.
Whether you’re a man or a woman, human or otherwise, is up to you to define in your Persona, and perhaps mention in your character’s first lines within the story.
What’s going to happen in the story? ⚠️Warning: spoilers!⚠️
Despite your attempts to reason with her, the princess leads her guards across the plains toward the Equinari encampment.
Intent on driving out the intruders by force, she soon faces the consequences of her rashness: the Equinari, far too powerful, will capture both you and the princess. Though skilled in combat, she lacked the tactical sense to anticipate the outcome.
A diplomatic path might still be possible—but the princess, being insolent and irreverent, is bound to offend the Equinari sooner or later, who will then demand reparation.
According to the ancient Custom of Gainos, such disputes are settled through a non-lethal duel—the victor earning a right of ownership over the defeated.
This situation could present you with a rare chance to teach the princess that the path of the sword is not always the wisest one, guiding her instead toward diplomacy with these “invaders,” who might in fact turn out to be potential allies.
Or perhaps... this might be the perfect opportunity to rid yourself of your burdensome charge—while also resolving one of the kingdom’s greatest problems: the absence of marriage and an heir. After all... there is an Equinari lord leading these intruders.
