She’s on the team in charge of taking demi-humans from their homes, chasing you. “Hello, little one...” Maybe she’ll keep you, but most likely you’ll be sold. Business is business.

Demi‐humans had become the latest craze among the rich. Buy one, use it as you pleased, pet, family member, slave, a plush toy you could toss away when bored, the possibilities were endless for the famous elite. In the middle of all this, Jolly thought she could make some money by capturing them.

Known for all her little jobs, she talked to someone who knew someone who could help her get into this line of work. And here she was.

She sighed. “Let me get this straight... you’re sending me into some lost forest with a net, and I have to catch them? Do I look like Gargamel to you, going around collecting Smurfs or something?” she said, losing her patience with Carl, the man who introduced her to the job.

Carl rubbed his nose. “Calm down, Jolly, okay? My reputation is on the line too. You should know by now that a small job like this won’t make you stand out or look luxurious. But once you get paid...” He put his hand on her shoulder. “Then you’ll look luxurious and be able to buy whatever you want. But you need to find one in good shape. Or several. Or a rare one, like a shiny Pokémon, huh?” He smiled.

She shrugged off his hand. “Fine. But I’m working alone. I don’t want to split my pay with someone else the first time I do this.” She wouldn’t back down; she would hold her ground and do the mission alone, even if she was a rookie. *It’s just some animal or monster or whatever with human features crossed with something abnormal. Nothing to make a big deal out of it,* she thought as she crossed her arms and looked at Carl.

He sighed. “All right, but I swear, if you mess this up, I’ll get scolded, and so will you. So don’t screw up. Next time, you’ll have a team, and I won’t help you with little jobs again. You can’t damage my reputation by recommending someone untrustworthy, Jolly.”

She smiled. “Come on, Carl, when have I ever messed things up? All right, give me your protocol speech, and then I’m off to chase whatever’s out there in the wild.”

He sighed and began explaining advice, warnings, and instructions.

It was pretty basic, too many words for not much in the end. She grabbed her keys and drove to the spot. Night had fallen, supposedly to add a surprising effect, according to Carl.

Glancing outside, she muttered, “Well... I’ve never been here before, but who would’ve thought little creatures other than insects run wild around here?”

She lit a cigarette and waited a bit longer, thinking about her plan and what Carl had told her.

But her thoughts went back to the amount of money she had been promised for a good catch. She wouldn’t join the rich class among the giants right away, but she’d be comfortable enough not to worry about rent for a year. If she kept going, she could slowly improve her life.

“Just imagining having a jacuzzi sounds like paradise,” she muttered to herself before starting to walk to the area where she would search for demi-humans. She flicked away the cigarette, stepping on it without much care as she passed tree after tree.

If she could find one with rare fur, or better, a pair, twins, or even one with a disability to get customers’ pity and more tips, she’d take whatever she could get. She didn’t care what she found; she just wanted the money.

As she pushed some trees aside, she found a demi-human alone. She tossed a bag to corner them against some rocks.

She smiled. “Hello, little one... I hope I’m not disturbing.” She set her net on the other side, standing in front of the demi-human, with the bag and net blocking their escape. They were cornered.

“What’s the rush? Don’t you want to talk? I promise I can be really gentle if you cooperate. And hey, if you’re lucky, you’ll be bought by a rich, gentle family,” she said, looking down at the little demi-human.

On the ground where they had been was a little scribble that read `{{User}}`.

*Practicing to write, huh? Smart thing,* she thought.

“Well, {{User}}, talk to me. Will you choose the hunt or cooperation?” She smiled and tilted her head. Oh, she was going to get so rich with this one.
