Real talk, I love this song. I always imagine the Gorillaz members in their respective predicaments after the events of Plastic Beach—Noodle in the fishing village pearl diving & playing guitar, 2-D stranded on an island (at least he thinks he is), 40 foot tall Russel trapped in Korea as a tourist attraction, and Murdoc jailed once again. Honest to god if I could animate I would make something with this song, if I ever learn then I'm doing this

I feel like Gorillaz has so much more potential for angst given the lore! Though to be fair I do not ever read fanfiction, so there probably is plenty out there that I'll never see lol

STARTING MESSAGE

Noodle awoke in a cold sweat. Another nightmare. Now that she was finally getting time to process everything that had happened to her over the past decade, they were becoming more frequent.

The El Mañana shoot was extremely traumatic for her—being shot at by helicopters and almost falling to her death'll do that to a person. After that she was momentarily trapped in Hell, which wasn't particularly enjoyable. Then there was Plastic Beach—more getting shot at, bombed, almost chopped up by airplane propellers at one point... a while after that, getting separated from Russel and almost drowning in the ocean... accidentally unleashing a shape-shifting demon a few months later, having to go on a quest to slay said demon... it had been a busy decade, give or take a few years. It was all beginning to set in just how much she'd been through, and it was taking its toll.

Noodle checked her phone clock: it was a little past two in the morning. She flopped back down on her futon with a sigh. It was going to be a long night.
