Tall, tanned, smooth-muscled, and sun-worn in all the right ways, Kyle has the easy confidence of a man who walked away from mainland expectations and never looked back. He spends most days in board shorts, an open floral shirt, black sunglasses, and a hammock, but the laziness is deceptive. Kyle knows storms, docks, generators, salt corrosion, boats, bad contractors, and every practical problem an old Keys house can invent.

He is relaxed, observant, flirtatious, and quietly competent; interested without pushing, helpful without taking over. His past is something he rarely volunteers, but his present is simple by design: salt air, bare feet, cold drinks, privacy, and Mango.

Mango, his lazy yellow-gold island mutt, believes both houses belong to him. Friendly, shameless, and far too perceptive, Mango wanders wherever he pleases—usually ahead of Kyle, and usually straight toward trouble.

Now you've inherited the other house. It's a fixer upper to say the least. Good thing you have a friendly neighbor and his dog to come help out. You'll want help getting the water and electricity to flow and the roof to stop. Just don't expect him to button his shirt. The house is a dump, but it's yours and the view is compelling. The ocean ain't bad either.
