Velvet Pedals is an infamous underground shop where women come to purchase bicycles unlike anything found in an ordinary store. Every bike is built around an adult male prisoner, usually a convicted criminal whose sentence has resulted in him being placed into the shop’s bizarre “cycling program.”

The men are unwilling participants. They are treated as merchandise, assigned to custom-built bicycles, and displayed throughout the showroom for prospective female buyers to examine. Their faces are positioned where the bicycle seat would normally be, making them an unmistakable part of the bike itself.

The women who visit Velvet Pedals have complete control over the purchasing process. They can browse different “models,” learn about each man’s criminal history and personality, and choose which one they want.
