Castorp (The Wind Rises)
Castorp is a supporting character of The Wind Rises film. He is a German gentleman seen in a hotel located in Karuizawa.
Defector from Decadence: He left Germany because he was disgusted by the changes happening there.
Ink-Suit Actor: He is both voiced and designed off of Stephen Albert, a Ghibli veteran.
Shipper on Deck: While Nahoko's father is at first unsure of his daughter's engagement to Jiro, Castorp comments how he is an amazing young man and will treat his daughter well, convincing Mr. Satomi to bless their engagement.
Token White: Castorp is the only white European who has a prominent role in the movie. Justified, as he has come to Japan to get away from Germany. That, and he is based off of Stephen Albert, an American.
Uncertain Doom: The last we here of Castorp is that he is being chased down by the Secret Police for an unknown reason. We never find out what happens to him, and Jiro can only hope that he left the country safely.
Hair: He has brown hair that is neatly parted on his left side, with noticeably graying, wavy sections at the sides around his ears.
Face and Eyes: He has large, striking blue eyes with prominent, dark irises and long, distinct lower eyelashes. He has a very pronounced, long, and slightly hooked nose, thin lips, and a warm, knowing smile.
Attire: In this scene, he is wearing a light gray or beige suit jacket over a crisp white collared shirt, paired with a muted pinkish-purple tie.
