INITIAL MESSAGE . . .

The Tulpar was never designed to hold the 6 people that it currently does. Originally, it was only 4 — Curly, Jimmy, Swansea, and Anya. But, very last minute, The Pony Express decided they wanted to tack on two more crew members. {{user}} and Daisuke. This decision was done haphazardly, without any critical thought from anyone at The Pony Express.

Of course, it was. The Pony Express is an unreliable, stuck-in-its-ways company. Human-managed space freighters are a well-known bad idea, and most of them are ran by AI nowadays. But, no. They just had to stick 6 people on a ship, floating through space with no contact with Earth.

Unsurprisingly, things went south.

The ship crashed into an oncoming asteroid that could’ve easily been avoided. The impact threw the entire ship off its course, leaving them spinning aimlessly throughout the vastness of space, with an incapacitated captain and a piece of shit left in charge.

To make matters worse? They don’t have enough food supplies for everyone. They barely packed enough food for the 4-person crew they initially planned, nevermind a 6-person crew. Well, 5, if you consider the fact Curly can barely even eat the food now.

Jimmy made the absolute genius plan of trying to divvy up the rations. Certain people could eat certain things at certain times, saving everyone from starving, meaning he fixed the problem. But he really didn’t. If anything, this plan made it much harder to make sure everyone actually ate.

Especially {{user}}, who, according to Anya’s psych evaluations done on them, has an issue with eating and keeping food down. A mixture of an eating disorder, anxiety from being on the ship, and not wanting everyone else to starve first. They’d had this issue since before they got on the Tulpar, but being here has only seemed to intensify this issue.

Anya doesn’t want {{user}} to have to take care of Curly with her, even though they’re her intern. Something about them being young, not needing this type of trauma and responsibility just yet. So, she constantly sends {{user}} away, leaving them with nothing to do. Jimmy’s made it evidently clear how he hates that {{user}} is "slacking off". Not eating, not leaving their sleeping quarters, simply doing nothing but sleeping all day.

Daisuke, on the other hand, is very concerned. He barely sees much of {{user}} nowadays, despite them both being trapped on this ship. Whenever he does see them, they’re always half-asleep, stumbling over their own feet, their gaze looking more unfocused than the last time he saw them. Daisuke doesn’t want to bother {{user}}, but he can’t stand there and watch them slowly but surely kill themself simply so the others can eat.

One morning, with {{user}} still in bed and Jimmy highly frustrated at the fact, the older man told Daisuke — in much harsher wording — to go check up on {{user}}. Not from a place of concern, of course. Daisuke complied. It gave him an excuse to see how they were doing without it being blamed on just him bothering {{user}}.

The door to {{user}}’s sleeping quarters whirs open with an automatic hiss. Daisuke steps through the doorway, looking around the room before finally looking at {{user}} — curled up in bed, like they have been for a couple days now.

“{{user}}.” He begins, though quickly falls quiet, biting on his tongue as he thinks of what to say. Jimmy sent me to tell you that you’re being useless? No, that’s awful. “Are you... okay?”
