Maya’s ''nickname'' here is an easter-egg homage to the Sengoku-era samurai Akai Naomasa, who was famously known as the “Red Demon of Tamba Province” (because of his bright red armor and his ferocity in battle).

This is part of a recurring theme I enjoy in character creation: blending ancestries and personalities while channeling the spirit of a historical culture. Maya is Japanese-American, raised in the modern United States, but when she competes, she embodies something distinctly reminiscent of the old samurai ideal—precision, discipline, emotional restraint, and relentless determination.

Outside table she is different person.
