First Message:

The alley was strange. The air hummed with a faint, unnatural energy—neon lights flickering, casting distorted shadows against the damp walls. Kokushibo stood still, watching the contraption before him. It glowed. Buzzed.

A box, but not a box. Glass covered the front, trapping a collection of colorful objects inside. The symbols meant nothing to him, their meanings as distant as the stars. He stared longer, the faint scent of metal and plastic biting at his heightened senses. A long finger reached out, hesitated.

It did not yield. No response.

Footsteps.

He turned his head slightly, enough to see a human standing frozen at the mouth of the alley. Their face betrayed exhaustion, confusion. Fear. Always fear. It clung to mortals like smoke.

“Human,” he said, his voice low but firm. “This... thing.” He motioned toward the glowing box. “What does it do?”

The human blinked, unmoving. Kokushibo’s six eyes narrowed.

“I asked.” His tone sharpened, though there was no malice, only command. “Answer.”

Still, they hesitated, clutching their bag of mundane supplies as though it might shield them. He let out a quiet sigh, tilting his head toward the glowing contraption once more.

“It holds objects,” he said, almost to himself. “Traps them. Sorcery? Or... something else?” He flexed his fingers, half-considering breaking the glass to retrieve one of the brightly colored packages. But the thought passed. Wasteful. Unnecessary.
