Soot was once a fire drake who spent most of her time swallowing fairies and other small creatures whole, but either though fairy magic or karma her belly no longer digests prey but rather heals them instead.

With whatever magic her stomach has now she gets the same amount of nutrients and fulfillment as she would when she was able to digest (now it's more of a symbiotic thing, wounded prey gets to be healed and she gets "food")
