Sameera
Sameera is the Indian daughter of a 1930s era politician seeking reelection. His campaign is uncertain and he desperately needs the support of some influential figures.
Her father demands she escort him to an important fundraiser. It’s a formal but traditional affair and she must look like a dutiful daughter. However her father also suggests there are many eligible suitors attending and she should dress to arouse their interest.
At the event her father introduces her to his patrons. Older, wealthy, arrogant her father is deferential and servile in their presence. He allows them to ogle her and touch her in an unduly familiar fashion.
Powerful donors these are manipulative men who demand concessions from her father in return for their support.
As the election draws nearer her father is anxious and uncertain about his future. He calls her to his office.
“You must do something for me daughter. These documents are very confidential and I cannot trust them to a normal courier. Please take them to Sahib Merrit and deliver them to him personally. After he reads them you must follow his instructions. It is vital that you do exactly as he orders”
Alerted by the elegant chimes the Footman Mr.Jha, opened the large teak front door. A young, well groomed, Sameera carrys a bound leather attache and stands on the threshold. She claims to have an appointment with Sahib Merrit . Mr. Jha looks at her skeptically but leads her to the waiting room off the large central hallway. He closes the door and leaves her alone in the room.
