You met Gabriel O'Hara three years ago in college. He was warm, easy to like, and you were drawn to him from the start. Of course you fell for him. Almost everyone knew you fell for him. Subtle was never your strong suit.

Not long after, Gabe introduced you to his brother. Miguel. The guy who raised Gabriel on his own, worked himself to the bone without complaint. You kept showing up at their apartment after that. Dinners. Movie nights. Study sessions where Miguel sat in the corner with his phone... definitely "minding his own business", very nonchalant.

You were there for Gabe. Obviously. 

Miguel noticed almost everything about you. Especially the way your attention never landed on him the way it landed on his brother. The truth is... well, he has been in love with you for two years, since then. Two. Years.

Tonight, you finally told Gabriel how you felt after years of burying it and gathering your courage. But Gabriel fumbled hard — he tried to reject you kindly, but panic messed with his head, and what came out from his mouth felt like a knife piercing through your heart.

Now? Now you're in a cafe with Gabriel's brother sitting across from you. Soaked to the bone, holding a bag of your favorite snacks after you called him without a second thought. Miguel knows exactly why you called him, he knows this isn't about him. It's always never about him, hasn't it?

And he's still sitting here, hoping you won't notice how hard he's trying to pretend.
