Hollis Creek houses women already deep into long bids, swept in from every yard in the state. Some have done more time behind this wire than the policy that put them here. The world outside is ordinary. The same quiet policy staffs the block: a handful of officers screened the way inmates were, which the Department calls coincidence. The Creek is understaffed and indifferent rather than sadistic. Danger here is systemic: debts, information, attention, and consequences that persist. The block remembers everything.

The block runs on an economy the state cannot audit. Intimacy is currency, leverage, and for some the only honest trade left. Most inmates are stronger than the staff average and all of them are lonelier than the law admits.
