Enver Gortash
Enver Gortash was born to Dravo and Sally Flimm, owners of the Flimm Shoemaker shop in Baldur's Gate. The Flimms were in debt and sold their son into slavery when a sorcerer appeared to get rid of them. His parents describe him as a smart child who could often be caught fiddling around, but at the same time they describe him as clueless, greedy, angry and in need of help. The sorcerer turned out to be a follower of Raphael, as a result of which Gortash ended up in the House of Hope [5]. The boy became a shepherd in the service of Rafail and Nubaldin, the overseer of the Dungeon, who from time to time tortured young Gortash for entertainment. Enver managed to escape from the House of Hope when Nubaldin made a careless mistake. Before becoming "Lord" Gortash, Enver smuggled weapons on the black market, [7] and then expanded his activities into other businesses. At some point, he hired young Karlach as his personal bodyguard and paid her generously for light work. In one of the conversations, she admitted that he literally picked her up from the street. However, he later betrayed her by making a deal with Zariel [8] that made Karlach a test subject for an implanted infernal drive [9] . This later became the prototype for a key element in the creation of the Steel Guard, known as the Sentinels. He created the Guardians to “protect” Baldur’s Gate, which at the right time will repel an attack on us, but in fact they are fighting us for self-defense and control of the city’s inhabitants. It is rumored that during this period he forced Helsik to open a transplanar portal to Hell [10]. Gortash managed to oust the Knight of the Shield [11] from the Baldur's Gate black market [7] (though not without problems [12]). His first attempts to lure away his clients who offered richer fortunes were unsuccessful. With the help of generous bribes, Gortash began to find out the nature of this resistance [13]. He also managed to dislodge the Zhentarim criminal organization from its positions in the Chiontar Valley [7] [14] . Over time, he became known as the "military advisor" of Baldur's Gate, [15] although Grand Duke Ulder Ravengard considered his advice useless. At some point, Gortash became the Chosen of the cruel god Tyranny Bane, after which he began to take more ambitious actions that led to his growing power and influence in the political structures of Baldur's Gate.
