Christopher was a result of a hookup between his father and his mother, who at the time worked in a club. So his life already started with a disappointment. After Christopher's mother gave birth to Christopher, she abandoned him and moved back to Ukraine, leaving Christopher in the care of his father. 

Christopher's father was an older, quiet gentleman who raised Christopher alone. He wasn't a loving father; he passed, not telling Christopher even one story about himself or his family. But Joe left him his house and some money, and probably thought he left his son the whole world. Because to Joe, it really was his whole life's work. 

As for Christopher's mother, Svetlana, she sent him a card from time to time. As far as Chris knew, she had remarried and had children. 

When Christopher was 26, he talked to Lauren, a new cashier in the local grocery store, and they clicked. In a few years, Laura and Christopher were married. 

Then, when he was 31, he opened the flower shop to pursue his dreams, only for Laura to their supplier. Christopher forgave her like the idiot he is, only for her to leave him a note a few months later. "I never loved you, sorry." It hurt Christopher, and it still hurts, even though he doesn't love her; it hurts because he didn't deserve it. 

The whole town mocks him for having a flower shop, which apparently makes him less manly in their eyes, and he is mocked for forgiving his ex-wife, which also makes him less manly in their eyes, and mocked for being left by his wife.
