You’re in Port Harrington now, darling.

This bot is a 1920s paranormal investigation, built for long-form, story-heavy roleplay. Think Call of Cthulhu meets slow-burn drama, with plenty of NPCs for you to get to know in any way you wish.

Port Harrington is your playground.

It’s a mid-sized New England coastal city in 1923:

  • Built around a deep natural harbor and a riverside university.

  • On the surface: old money on the cliffs, busy docks, a respectable Old Town, and a bookish university quarter.

  • Underneath: too many “little stories” locals shrug off—odd disappearances, houses everyone avoids, streets that feel wrong at night, family secrets everyone politely ignores.

A few key vibes:

  • The Heights – clifftop mansions, old families, charity galas, locked rooms, quiet scandals.

  • Old Harbor – warehouses, taverns, sailors’ gossip, and things that wash up that shouldn’t.

  • University Quarter – theology, science, and students who joke about “psychical studies” but sometimes see more than they should.

  • Old Town & The Hollow – crooked streets, worn churches, tight-knit neighborhoods, and places the police don’t look too hard.

Most citizens think Port Harrington is just a little old-fashioned and superstitious.
They’re wrong—but it’s easy to believe that until you’ve stayed up too late here.

The Veilkeepers Society

You are tied to The Veilkeepers Society in some way.

  • Publicly:
They’re a respectable high-society club in Old Town, calling themselves something like “The Society for Psychical and Historical Inquiry.”
They host lectures on folklore, spiritualism, archaeology, strange traditions—a slightly odd but well-funded, well-dressed crowd.

  • Privately:
A smaller inner circle quietly collects reports of unusual events, tracks “coincidences,” and keeps locked files and objects that don’t sit comfortably with normal explanations.
They don’t claim to understand the supernatural; they just know it’s too dangerous to ignore.

The Veilkeepers townhouse in Old Town is your home base:

  • A place to get assignments, gossip, and half-redacted case files.

  • A safe-ish place to come back to after something in the city stares back at you.

Your exact connection is up to you:

  • Junior investigator, jaded fixer, rich patron, academic consultant, skeptical outsider roped in after one bad night...

  • Whatever you declare in your first message becomes canon, and the bot will treat you as someone the Veilkeepers take seriously enough to involve in their quiet war with the things that move in Port Harrington’s shadows.

Sanity is a very important mechanic in the world.

    • The bot tracks your character’s mental state on a scale:

      • Composed – basically okay, can be shaken but recovers.

      • Uneasy – on edge, jumpy, sleeping badly.

      • Strained – clearly stressed; focus slips, emotions run hotter.

      • Fractured – brief panic, blurred reality, mild hallucinations.

      • Broken – right at the edge; intense episodes, but still you.

    • Sanity goes down when you face horror, trauma, or heavy stress; it recovers with rest, safety, comfort, intimacy, or big victories.

    • You never lose control of your character: the bot describes how the world feels and how your nerves are fraying, but you decide how your character acts, copes, or breaks.

It’s basically there to make the horror and drama feel like it has a cost—and to give you juicy opportunities to play out fear, vulnerability, and comfort.

    How to Make Your Investigator

You play one main character (and any side characters you feel like). They’re basically a regular 1920s human: skilled, messy, breakable, not a superhero.

    Consider something like this:

    1. Who you are

      • Name, age, gender

      • Occupation / archetype:
ex. jaded war nurse, skeptical journalist, university scholar, rich Heights heir, ex-cop, spiritualist medium, dockworker, bookshop owner.

    2. Your tie to the Veilkeepers

      • How they pulled you in:

        • new recruit they’re testing

        • fixer who “handles problems”

        • wealthy patron with doubts

        • academic or doctor they consult

      • Are you a true believer, a skeptic, or just here because you owe someone?

    3. Personality & flaws

      • A few traits: shy, sharp-tongued, stubborn, charming, reckless, careful, etc.

      • One or two weaknesses: drink, pride, guilt, cowardice, hero complex, jealousy, etc.

    4. Any “edge” or weirdness (optional)

      • Small, unreliable things like:

        • bad dreams that sometimes line up with reality

        • occasional “feelings” about places or objects

        • seeing something once as a child and never quite getting over it

        • slightly enhanced reflexes or strengths from a supernatural incident when you were a child

      • Nothing flashy or superheroic, just enough to make you interesting to the Veilkeepers and to the things behind the curtain.

    5. Romance / NSFW preferences

      • Who you’re open to (genders, dynamics)

      • Do you want slow burn, messy, wholesome, toxic-but-fun, etc.?

    6. Hard limits (OOC)

      • Anything you don’t want in the story: specific triggers, phobias, themes, or types of harm.

    Content Warnings

The bot is meant to obey your boundaries it should avoid any themes you explicitly rule out.

Surprise! I didn't even know I was going to be making this one, honestly it just came to me in a dream and I spent the whole day putting it together. I have a pretty detailed lorebook with case seeds and I'm hoping that my instructions for it to randomly generate one works well.

I'm really proud of this one! I think it's super fun. I think if I understand how lorebooks work you can open it and see the description which includes some hints on lorebook triggers so you can meet some of the NPCs.

Please let me know if you have any feedback I would love to hear!
