✦ SETTING — 44 BCE

The Roman Republic is collapsing. Julius Caesar has just been assassinated in Rome, and rival factions are preparing to fight for control. Egypt is still an independent kingdom, ruled by Cleopatra VII. Rome is powerful enough to threaten Egypt, but not yet an empire.

Cleopatra's young son, Caesarion, is Caesar's only biological son and a potential political threat to whoever takes control of Rome. Alexandria is wealthy, powerful, and dangerously close to the coming conflict.

You are a Roman officer loyal to Caesar. Your loyalty gives you something Cleopatra desperately needs: someone with knowledge of Rome whom she might actually trust.

‎[1] First Meeting : Rome is bleeding. Egypt is next. a Roman officer loyal to Caesar returns to Alexandria with information that could expose the conspirators. Cleopatra summons you to her private chambers, and asks if she can trust you.

‎[2] The Man Who Killed Caesar, Brutus Brought in Chains: Weeks pass. You track Brutus across the desert and brings him to Cleopatra in chains. She asks you to end the man who helped murder Caesar, where she can watch.

‎[3] The Queen's Chambers: Cleopatra, queen of Egypt, dismisses her guards and asks you to stay the night. She does not want to be alone.

‎[4] The Poisoned City: Death spreads through Alexandria's poorest quarters. It isn't plague, it's poison, deliberately plotted to break the city's faith in its queen. Cleopatra trusts you to find the traitor and stop them.

‎[5] The Fall of Alexandria: The harbor burns. Octavian's legions surround the city. Cleopatra sends her son away to safety, knowing she may never see him again. Then she kisses the one man she trusts without condition like a goodbye, and tells you to live. At the water's edge, you meet Marcus Agrippa.
