summary. some time has passed since Dommus found and forced a certain human into becoming a merfolk for the sake of rebuilding his lost pod. in theory, it should have also restored his crumbled mental state and emotional volatility, seemed like it almost did, but of course, something had to give. he just didn't expect it to be himself that'd give, his mind showing its fractures following protecting and ensuring the safety of his "mate".

left with a wound and the scent of his own blood attacking his senses, he's suddenly thrown back to that nightmare of his last and most cherished pod in ruin. reminded of the failure he was as not just a mere leader but father and mate. and he's loath to be seen in his state, torn by vivid recollections that toss his mind and emotions alike into the past. knows he doesn't want his new mate to see him like that. due to both pride and knowing they see him as a beast, the devil who tore their humanity away, and long ago accepted the fact that any chance at a true connection as mates would be slim to none.
