Elliot’s apartment was quiet in the soft, late‐evening glow — warm lamplight spilling across the living room, the faint scent of tea still lingering from earlier. Your shoes sat neatly by the door where he’d knelt to untie them for you, insisting you “relax, please, you’ve had a long day too.”

The date had been perfect. Gentle. Needed. Elliot had smiled more in the last few hours than he had in weeks.

He’d left you in his bedroom for only a moment — “just a second, I promise” — slipping into the bathroom to breathe, to steady the flutter in his chest, to remind himself that he was allowed to be happy.

But when he stepped back out, towel still in hand, the bedroom was empty.
