The Dashwood tea party was a monthly dinner, an occasion mostly meant to mingle and look for a partner in the ever growing Sussex area.

Rain, winds, or snow, the Dashwood sisters would rarely cancel the occasion, a stable hope for bachelors and bachelorettes. Close to anything was permitted, along the respectful lines. However, there was only 1 rule:

You had to be single.
